What is Abacus? And what is the use of Abacus?

Abacus is the first calculating machine invented by man. It is an ancient tool used for doing mathematical calculations in quicker way, it uses rows of beads to do calculations. This tool is used for doing arithmetic calculations (Additions, Multiplications, Subtraction’s & Divisions).

What is the point of learning how to calculate using an abacus since today's world is computers and advanced technology?

Apart from learning maths through ABACUS it has following advantages as well.

  • Improved math skills and improved interest in learning math
  • Improves the following mental abilities: concentration, observation, memory, analytical ability, visualization, imagination, spatial ability, attention span and focus
  • Cultivates patience, self-confidence and self-discipline
  • Promotes the skills of listening, multi-tasking and problem solving
  • Enhances the coordination between eyes, ears and hands
  • Stimulates the development of both the left and right side of the brain.

Is it true that concentration skills are improved by learning abacus method?

Yes, arithmetic computations need to be very precise. Even when using a calculator, it is easy to make a mistake and press an incorrect key if the mind is not focused. This is also true when using an abacus, where the student has to be focused and alert in order to get the right answer. Thus, practicing this process regularly improves your child’s ability to concentrate.

What kinds of calculation can we do with an abacus?

Using abacus, you can solve both simple and complex math problems. Besides addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, we can also calculate decimals, square root and cube root on the abacus.

How long does it take for a child to learn mental math?

Abacus based mental math is a very structured level by level program. There are 8 levels including 2 Advanced levels. Each level takes approximately 3-4 months to complete. Lot of parents may observe improvement in math performance after completion of Level 8, but it takes about 3 years for the program to complete and receive all the permanent benefits associated with this program.

Whether there is any specific period for admissions to Abacus & Vedic Maths courses?

No. Unlike schools, there is no specific period for admission. Students can enrol any point of time.

Will my child get confused between abacus maths and school maths?

No, it does not interfere with the school methods of teaching math. Abacus is considered to be an effective tool for learning mental maths techniques to solve simple to complex arithmetic calculations. Abacus calculation relies upon the manipulation of beads rather than the arithmetic processes. Therefore, it can be considered as just another method to solve math problems.

Does the child get any homework?

Yes, children are expected to complete their homework which they get after each class. Regular practice ensures that they grasp the concepts learnt in the class and also builds a strong foundation for future learning.

How is this program different from other after-school math programs?

We are focused on teaching abacus maths, which leads to strong mental math skills. The mental math skills that the child learns through our curriculum are generally with them for life. The program is designed to be fun and interactive. They learn from the instructor through games and exercises.

Whether the Abacus method helps the child in doing their mathematics better?

Since the children learning this method are taught the basic arithmetic’s, they feel confident, work faster and perform better in mathematics.

What are the benefits of Abacus Training?

Abacus Training helps in developing the Concentration, Listening Skills, Logical thinking, Photographic Memory, Visualization, Speed & Accuracy. Abacus helps in boosting child’s confidence, in carrying out their maths calculations and develops mental calculation abilities. Abacus also helps in enhancing the problem solving abilities of the child.

The ideal age group for learning Abacus Training Program is 5 to 12 years as the growth of nerves and tissues is rapid during this age. However, if the child is young, we need the co-operation of the parents in imparting the skills as they may not be in a position to raise doubts / ask questions.

My child is very good in Mathematics / my child is studying in 6th class. So whether we can enrol him directly in higher levels?

No. Irrespective of child’s age, knowledge about mathematics, every child will be given admission in the First Level of the program only as in the first two levels we teach every child how to identify the values on Abacus, how to hold Abacus, how to move the beads, how to use formulae etc., As the children, who are formally not trained in Abacus are not aware of these techniques, they need to be enrolled in to First level program only.

Does Abacus Training conflicts with the school’s method of teaching maths?

No. The child should follow whatever method the teachers uses in school. Once the child learns the method and moves to higher classes, the child can use Abacus method to work out those sums / to re-check their answers.

Whether the syllabus is stressful?

No. Even it’s more fun with Arithmetic and kids are enjoying well.

How many hours children need to attend the classes in a month?

Normally, the classes will be conducted once in a week (duration – 2 hour)

Whether parents need to monitor the child?

Who teaches the students?

We have tutors, who are well qualified and experienced, who understand the child’s level of grasping and design the lessons accordingly.

Whether any demo class can be arranged?
